Nigeria has over 300 ethnic groups. The Jukun is one of them. They are located in Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe States. They are also found in parts of northwestern Cameroon.
There is hardly any ethnic group in Nigeria that is restricted to only one state. Some even have indigenous communities in other African nations.
But how much of this history do you know? Among the 3000 ethnic groups in Africa, how many do you know? Some have even historical connections with others.
How much of this do you know? How many of the over 300 ethnic groups in Nigeria do you know? How many do you know their traditions and cultures? Many Africans may even be hearing about this for the first time but they know about all the states in America. Our system of education needs a total overhaul.
We have travelled on the wrong track for a very long time. Our real wealth as Africans is not the mineral resources but our cultures and traditions. Our strength, wealth and beauty are in our diversity and variety. Are we together?
