HISTORICAL ACCIDENTS

If Igboland were colonised by China, I would probably be writing today in Chinese and bearing a Chinese name.I would have possibly been a Buddhist and maybe a Buddhist monk.

If no one had colonised us, I would possibly have been a core omenala person and even a traditional priest or dibia.

If Usman Dan Fodio and those who came before him had entered through the southern part of Nigeria, I may have been a Muslim and even an Imam today.

If the Christian missionaries had entered Nigeria from the north and earlier before the Muslims, Northern Nigeria would have been predominantly Christians today. And so on and so forth.

Be careful of what you do today—what you teach, introduce, and champion—because it has consequences. It can determine the future of a whole nation, continent, or even the entire world.

It is, however, our duty to make laws that would ensure that the actions or ideas of anyone dead or alive do not lead us to chaos, disorder, underdevelopment, strife, loss of freedom, integrity, self-worth, or progress.

If you understand the history of why you are where you are today, you will understand the senselessness of discrimination based on belief or any socially induced differences.

This is because you could have been the person you are discriminating against. Live and let live. We all have enough space to thrive. Do not allow historical accidents to becloud your reasoning.
