Last week I took my car for a roadworthiness inspection. The car passed.
For those who do not understand this terminology, what Oyibo calls roadworthiness is that thing many Africans refer to as the spirit of accident.
I mean those spirits that prevent the car from stopping when the driver applies the brake. Those spirits that make the tire burst, which could result in the car somersaulting. I mean those spirits that make the car to suddenly break down on lonely roads and those spirits that will not let your car headlamps and trafficators function.
To fight these spirits, our people will recruit some combat spirits via their religious
superintendent.
Oyibo does not have spirits to blame in case of accidents. Humans take responsibility for every human failure.
Thus, Oyibo will do everything possible within their knowledge and power to avoid or minimise human errors.
As we have entered the month of December, rather than taking preventive measures to minimise road mishaps, many of our people will be busy looking for spirits to appease and cults to set up. Sadly, we see it as being religious.
