JUNO MONETA: THE ROMAN GODDESS OF MONEY

Have you heard of Moneta, the Roman goddess of money. It is from her name that the words ‘money’, ‘monetary’ and ‘mint’ were derived. In ancient Rome, it was in her temple that money was coined.

The image of the goddess Moneta was even used in printing the 1861 50 dollars note as shown in the picture below.

In Greece ancient traditional religion, they also had their own goddess for money. She was called Plutus.

It was a common thing in ancient religions all over the world that certain gods or goddess were incharge of money. But all these belong to the past in the religious evolutionary ladder of the world.

Imagine what our okeite dibias would have done if the temple of Moneta had existed in any of their villages? Or imagine what they would have done if they were descendants of the priests of the goddess Moneta?

Imagine how the world will be looking at us when they hear that our young boys are going to temples, shrines or churches to invoke or ask for money in the 21st century?

The world is really laughing at us. What we are doing in the 21st century, they did over 3000 years ago. They do not even describe it as culture or tradition. They call it mythology. Do you know what is mythology? ….Akuko ifo, Ajambele.
